Why I'm Here

Hello there gentle viewers. My first blog! Excited? Me too. I guess I should start with what has brought me here. I have been inspired by blogs written by a lot of my close friends and people that I look up to. Jazz Dawson, one of my best friends, is amazing at art and make up and created a blog a while a go showing off her talent for horror movie style  make ups; a talent which has gotten her a huge following of viewers asking for tutorials on how to mimic her fabulous work. This was a big inspiration for me.
A lot of people will have already seen my Youtube channel and I still enjoy posting videos on that particular site, however there are some things I want to talk about that would be much more appropriate on a blog. I like to do reviews on Youtube, but would also love to write reviews every once in a while. I would like to gush about my favourite TV shows and books without having to sort out the position of my camera (I'm terribly webcam-phobic). I would like to post bits of writing and poetry, fan fiction and factual pieces and see what people think of them!

So that's why I'm writing a blog. Now for the introduction to me. My name is Nathan Jenkins and I am a slave to television, books and comics. I would wear the same jeans for the next decade if it meant I could get more DVD box sets. From a very early age, TV has been a huge part of my life, particularly TV shows about magic. Perhaps it is jumping into other worlds that fascinates me and makes my own world just a little more sparkly. I've always been fascinated by shows on the supernatural. I've been fascinated by the supernatural in general actually. It's what got me practicing Wicca! Now, a lot of people hear I'm a Wiccan, link it to my love for "Charmed" and come to the conclusion that I'm waving my hands at people all day, expecting them to freeze or go flying. I'm not! I studied Wicca for a long time. Sure, my love for shows like "Charmed", "Buffy the Vampire Slayer", "Sabrina the Teenage Witch" etc. fueled my interest at first, but I'm well aware that the people I wave my hands at won't freeze, sparkles won't shoot from my fingers and my eyes won't turn black when I speak in Latin! I digressed there, it was just to make clear that I will talk about Wicca sometimes and that when I do, you shouldn't link it to my love for TV magic too much.

What am I watching? On television, I am currently watching: Revenge, CSI and Once Upon a Time. That's all I have on TV right now (don't have that many channels). I started Revenge mainly due to my love for Emily Vancamp; I'd unintentionally followed her career up until this point (was a loyal viewer of Everwood and Brothers and Sisters) so I knew that she could hold a show. I haven't been disappointed so far. Scandalous rich people trying to kill each other is certainly a genre that is a guilty pleasure for me. I loved Desperate Housewives and Ringer (furious about Ringer's cancellation), Revenge has a similar feel to it.
I have gotten back into CSI since Ted Danson (Cheers) joined the cast. I was not impressed with Lawrence Fishburne's performance as the new lead and think Ted Danson is a perfect fit for the group. He has the balance of intelligence and quirkiness that a CSI lead should have and I'm enjoying his character so far. Sad to see Catherine Willows go, but she gave us some great years and will always be remembered.
Now, Once Upon a Time! I am so hooked on this show. Like I said, I love magic. Once Upon a Time is more than just hocus pocus though. The way they interpret the fairy tales and have them reflected in Storybrooke is simply genius at some points. Queen Regina has quickly become one of my favourite bad witches; perfectly casted, she has a dark look about her, yet she's undeniably beautiful, just as a fairytale's evil queen should be.

So that's just a little taster of what you can expect from this blog. I hope you guys will follow me through my rambles and find some interesting food for thought in this wacky world of words I'm creating.

Blessed be x
